THURSDAY THOUGHTS
Are You Thinking Proactively Or Preconceived?
Preconceived can be damaging mentally and to your relationships
What makes one thing different from another? As you thought about your participation, were you preconceiving it one way? Interesting that your thoughts didn’t match reality.
In 1976, I worked for almost a year with a promising inventor. My reason for working there was that the company and the owner were very well connected. My “territory” was the eastern half of the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and Europe, which made over fifteen hundred points of representation.
I would leave every Monday morning to return in time for date night on Friday with my bride. We had four children, ages 9, 4, and 2 ½, and a newborn. My wife needed the break that date night was supposed to represent.
On the plane ride home from Baltimore in the first week, I imagined the children dressed in play clothes, the house well maintained, my bride in a nice dress, and food ready for the babysitter and the children.
OK, I admit, I should have thought differently about the situation. I should have imagined it from my bride’s point of view.
I think that in this case, no amount of thinking on my part would have been right…
