Garth Brooks, I’m Standing Outside The Fire

I feel the words speak to me and identify exactly who I am

Oh, so many times I’ve endured criticism for jumping into the fire. Let someone else do it. Let them get hurt.

Garth’s hit song, “Standing Outside The Fire”, was one of the first songs from any artist I could identify as talking of me. Read these words:

Standing outside the fire
Standing outside the fire
Life is not tried, it is merely survived
If you’re standing outside the fire

As a homeless kid, people around me said, “You’ll always be poor white trash.”

I took Garth’s words to heart. I’ve let nothing or anyone hold me back. You’ll always find me in the fire.
