Where does leadership come from?

A leader doesn’t always show up in a boardroom. Most of us back away from the opportunities to lead. Why?

People see me as a leader in every environment I’ve found myself in. Why? Personally, I think it’s because everyone in the room or location knows that I have their best interest in mind. It’s not about me, it’s about the people that choose to follow me.

Most people can’t lead three people anywhere with a sign on their back.

I define leadership as a service to others. As a leader, it’s your job to create a vision for others to follow. People will follow you if you show you understand their needs and can work with them on how to solve their problems.

Many people think that leading a non-profit company is easy. It’s one of the greatest challenges. Volunteers that work with non-profits are usually paid minimum wage. People who work in this capacity don’t really like to be told what to do. However, all of them arrive wanting something from the…
