There’s A Notion That Money Is More Important Than . . .
What are your priorities? Are they in order?
Whenever we had a new baby, I said, “I just have to make more money.” I acted as though there wouldn’t be consequences. And the babies kept on coming. By the time I was in my early thirties, we had four. How much more money can I make? Then I came back from an overnight trip, and all I heard was loud yelling, “Mom’s gonna have another baby.” I turned on my heels and started walking. I just wanted to think.
I understood four. I was the oldest of four. I knew other families with four. Five was not clear. It took me a few weeks to let the responsibility of five settle in. I talked with a mentor friend who opened the second PIP print shop. He was smart, funny, and oh-so practical.
I said to him, “Myles, I’m not sure I can keep this pace for making money all the time. I never wanted money to be my focus in life.” He said, then don’t focus on money; position yourself as a solution, always focused on helping others. Then, money in sums you may not have thought possible will show up month after month.
