What Freedom Means To Me

Freedom IS personal.

Freedom means something different for every passing generation. Today, we see our freedom and liberties much differently than our forefathers did two hundred and forty-seven years ago when our nation was founded.

When the quality of your life is totally dependent on circumstances beyond your control, then there is NO freedom.

I’m directly related to the first Governor of New York under the king of England (Richard Nicolls (sometimes written as Nichols, 1624–28 May 1672), who was the first English colonial governor of New York province).

While laws were fair, transitioning from the Dutch rules of law had to be difficult.

The generations since then have seen thousands of laws come and go just in the state of New York.

As a boy, I remember the threat of communism was real. People's loyalties were in question, and there was a genuine effort to root communism out of the American way of life.

Times have changed; today, our way of life is threatened as much from within as it is externally. The two major threats today are drugs and terrorism (in my opinion).

Drugs are robbing us of potentially great minds. People that could have potentially made a difference. You pick the drug.
