What Happens When You Promote Someone, And They Can't Perform As They Should?

What to do, whose fault is it, and what should happen now?

As leaders, we are responsible for caring about those we lead. It is the bond that binds the leader and those that follow.

All too often, that bond doesn't exist because so-called leaders push and push until people fail.

I used to own a company that manufactured the same products in the image above. While the way they are manufactured is essential, people must be taught and watched to get it done right. Everyone knows that.

What if an employee does the best job ever, and we promote them up the ranks after due consideration? Now their job is different; we cannot assume they will succeed. What if they don't?

Around the world, this story will be repeated hundreds of thousands of times every year by leaders. The person that failed to meet expectations after being "promoted" is fired. You can almost hear the word NEXT being said from one person to another.

What if (the collective) you sit down and discuss it with them and give them a chance to return to where they were brilliant? Wait, don't go there. Don't say, what about ego, or what will people…
