Happiness comes in so many forms. In my youth, I missed so many opportunities to enjoy life. My life was serious. As a young boy, aged 9 to 13, I had a mother, sister, and brother who depended on me for existence.

While in the military, my wife and I were there until I went to the Philippines and Vietnam. Then I handled more people. When I was in my mid-twenties, an event opened my eyes to the reality that I was dying.

I wasn’t dying; I just had no joy in my life. I had four children and a wife, and I was CEO of a company with 26 people doing a lot of business per month. My success, leadership, and interaction with my family were not pleasant or even present.

I made a conscious decision to refresh my soul, to stop, and realize how many people were trying to help me achieve my goals. They had always been there, but I refused to change.

I had to change my mind, treat people with respect, to acknowledge their efforts on behalf of the company, my family, and me.

This Is My Result

Once I changed, the world around me changed. I was eager to get up in the morning. I intentionally listened to those that wanted my attention. I was finally engaged with life, people, and me.

Happiness is within each of us. It requires a decision to treat others differently. It especially requires you to understand that you WILL refresh your soul by doing so.

Oh, wait, you don’t believe me? Well,, only you can change and see if I’m right or wrong.
